Hopscotch

It’s a delicious comedy about fighting the incompetent. Matthau is a field CIA agent who gets tranferred to a desk job by his incompetent boss. As a revenge, he starts writing his memories exposing how the security services really work and how the incompetent take wrong decisions for the despair of his boss. Glenda Jackson is wonderful as his girlfriend and accomplice.

A Day with the Boys

It’s a short experimental movie (18′) made by character actor Clu Galager, one of the most surprising pieces I’ve watched recently. It’s visually beautiful and bold, shot by legendary cinematographer László Kovács. It shows the innocence of childhood together with the potential for human violence. It was the inspiration for George Washington.

Director/Producer/Screenwriter: Clu Gulager
Cinematography: Laszlo Kovacs
Cast: Ricky Bender, Artie Conkling, William Elliott, Jack Grindle, John Gulager, Mike Hertel, James Kearce, John McCaffrey, Mark Spirtos, Craig Williams

Trapped

Trapped-1pThe series is set in Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland. The protagonist Andri, the police chief, is the real one who is trapped in his past, present and future. Very good Nordic-style crime series. I’m looking forward very much for a second season.

House of Cards IV

House_of_Cards_season_4_promoThe first and second season were very good. The third started to exaggerate. The fourth is too much. We all know there are dirty politicians, but this seems too much. Even as fantasy.

La Grande Bellezza

24234df2f2afa82fe5f69af29009b812The movie is really visually beautiful. It was a pleasure watching it. It shows that external beauty and being wealth don’t result in fulfillment. The beauty is somewhere else. Inside.

The Salt of the Earth

mmt807-flatpackThe world is so beautiful, but also so sad. One has to find happiness in small things. The movie is about the life and work of the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, who has spent forty years documenting deprived societies in hidden corners of the world, including Africa and Latin America.

Directed by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado
